Ghost Ship in the Harbour

Speculation and rumors abound about the ship of the dead. Officials report only two sick and three dead. I am no expert on the matter but surely that is not enough to sail such a vessel. I heard it said there should be around twenty and five crew. Where are these men? Were there any passengers? So many unanswered questions left open for speculation.

One particular woman told with uninhibited certainty that a horde of giant squid ate the crew. In great detail she described the sea creatures slithering silently onto the deck at night, eating human flesh and bone as they went, leaving without a trace. A child crawled onto its mothers lap and cried.

In the coffee shop at the end of the road I heard a different tale altogether. The Golden Light, it was told, being named after the rays emanating from the Goddess of Light and Darkness, had been visited by this goddess. Each soul aboard was judged, weighed so to speak. Any soul found wanting she vaporized without delay. With sailors being the cruder types, rough and uncouth, many would have been found wanting, it was speculated.

I can go on, there were even ludicrous tales featuring the Duskcap tea and mass hysteria. I shall leave it at this.

In the morning I ventured down into the city to see the ghost ship for myself. It was busy with all kinds attending Ingathering. Neither was I alone in gawking at the large vessel. A few strongmen kept the crowd away from the ship. From the key side there wasn’t much out of the ordinary to see. Disappointed, I returned to my room.
