The God Emergent

Today a priest, or minister, or whatever they are here, engaged me in conversation. I went along with the plot. He pointed at some scales in a nearby shop, directing my attention to its weights. Here is what he told me.

In the beginning, when there was nothing but time and random matter, a connectedness emerged. From this connectedness emerged intelligence guided by weights. The weights became words and thus it is said “In the beginning was the word.” For without the word there would be nothing.

Then I asked him about the tuning with the weights. He replied: “Only the Emergent knows this, son!” I confessed I had not heard of his God, Emergent. He said “Few know Emergent and fewer still know how he sets the weights.”
